Morning arrived slowly in the haveli.
Not loudly.
Not rushed.
But full.
The long dining table was already laid out when the first footsteps reached the hall. Steam rose from fresh parathas. Tea cups clinked. Soft Rajasthani music played somewhere in the background.

One by one, everyone gathered.
Sunidhi and Abhay arrived first, discussing travel plans for the coming days.
Bhavesh and Kirti followed, Kirti fixing Ishani's dupatta even though it was already perfect.
Avyansh and Yuvan came in arguing about who would get the window seat later.
Shreya and Ekanshi walked in whispering and giggling, eyes scanning the room for something interesting.
Dadi was already seated on her seat.
And then Reyansh walked in.

Not in a dramatic way.

A long table stood in the center, already filled with plates of fruits, toast, parathas, tea and coffee. Everyone had taken their seats, but the room felt incomplete.

Sunidhi glanced toward the hallway.
"Where is Ishani?"
Kirti checked her phone.
"She should be here by now."
Bhavesh looked amused.
"Let the girl breathe. Yesterday was exhausting."

Reyansh was already seated, fingers wrapped around his coffee mug. He had not spoken a word, but his eyes kept flicking toward the corridor.
Shreya noticed.

She leaned toward Ekanshi and whispered loudly on purpose,
"Someone is waiting."
Before Shreya could ask more, footsteps approached.

Ishani walked in.
Hair tied loosely.
Soft pastel kurti.
Face calm.
Cheeks not calm at all.

Still half wrapped in last night's feelings, when her eyes accidentally met Reyansh's.
He was already looking at her.
Not staring.
Not being obvious.
Just... there.
Her heart skipped.
Her cheeks went warm.
She looked down immediately and sat beside Kirti, pretending to be very busy with her napkin.
Reyansh smiled to himself.

Ishani was sitting at the table, quietly sipping her tea, trying very hard to look normal. But the moment she felt his gaze, her fingers tightened slightly around the cup.
Shreya noticed.
Of course she did.

And then Shreya's voice cut through the entire room.
"BHABHI... why are you so red so early in the morning?"
The room froze.
Forks stopped mid air.
Yuvan choked on his juice.
Ekanshi gasped dramatically.
Kirti slowly turned her head toward Ishani.
Ishani felt like she might actually pass out.
"M....me?" she stammered.
Shreya leaned forward with a wicked grin.
"Yes you. Your face is pinker than the roses outside. Did something interesting happen last night?"
Ashirit coughed loudly.
Very loudly.
"Guys."
"She is my sister."
Shreya and Ekanshi looked at him.
"And?" Shreya asked innocently.
Ashirit rubbed his temples.
"You two are evil."
"Adorable and evil," Shreya corrected. "Big difference."
Ekanshi was already laughing.
"Oh my god look at her face."

Ekanshi smiled knowingly.
"Didn't I tell you yesterday?"
Shreya raised a brow.
"Tell me what?"
Ekanshi took a sip of juice, completely enjoying herself.
"That someone is going to be very flustered today."

Ishani tried to hide behind her cup.
"It's... it's just the weather."
Yuvan smirked.
"It was not that hot."
Avyansh added,
"Unless someone made it hot."
Reyansh finally looked up, calm, dangerous, amused.
"You people talk too much in the morning."
Shreya pointed at him.
"Oh so you are calm but she looks like she just ran a marathon."
Ishani's ears were on fire now.
Kirti blinked.
"Ishani... are you okay?"
Ishani nodded too fast.
"Yes mumma. Perfectly okay."

Reyansh leaned back in his chair, watching her with soft eyes and a barely hidden smile.
Ashirit coughed loudly.
"Guys. She is my sister."
Ekanshi laughed harder.
"And she is in trouble now."
Reyansh lifted an eyebrow.
"Excuse me?"
Shreya clapped her hands.
"Okay okay. Let us stop before someone faints."

Ishani was already close.
Their eyes met again.
Reyansh's gaze was warm, teasing, gentle all at once.
Her heart did that stupid flutter again.
And everyone noticed.
Sunidhi frowned.
"Why do I feel like something is happening and nobody is telling us?"
Bhavesh nodded slowly.
"I feel the same."
Kirti frowned slightly.
"Why is everyone staring at Ishani?"
Bhavesh calmly took a bite of toast.

Avyansh shrugged.
"Trust me. You do not want to know."

Ishani wanted to disappear.
Reyansh cleared his throat gently.
"Maybe we should save all this for later."
"We have a full day."
Then he looked around the table.
"Let us all leave now."
"We have venues to see."

Dadi smiled knowingly and asked everyone to eat their breakfast silently.

Udaipur had officially started with chaos, love and absolutely no mercy.

Cars waited outside the haveli, long and polished, their engines already humming softly in the morning heat.
The courtyard was full of movement.

It was loud.
But inside Ishani, everything had gone suddenly very quiet.
Because for one small, dangerous moment, it looked like she and Reyansh were about to be left alone.
The families naturally began pairing off.

Sunidhi , Abhay and Dadi walked toward one car.
Bhavesh and Kirti were guided toward another.
Yuvan and Avyansh were arguing over which vehicle to take.
Shreya and Ekanshi hesitated, unsure.
And there it was.

Reyansh was standing right next to Ishani.
Not touching her.
Not even speaking.
Just close enough that she could feel him.
The air between them shifted.
It was not obvious.
No one else noticed.
But she did.

Her pulse picked up. Her hands tightened around her dupatta. Her heart remembered the night before. The whispers. The way his presence alone made her feel too seen.
If they got into the same car now...
She did not know what would happen.

Not because she did not trust him.
Because she did not trust herself.
He turned slightly, about to speak.
And something in her panicked.
Not fear.
Overwhelm.
The kind that comes when someone matters too much.
Before anyone could decide anything, Ishani moved.
Quickly.
Softly.
Desperately.
"Ekanshi."
Her voice was a little too fast.
Ekanshi turned.
"Shreya."
Shreya blinked.
"Ashirit."
Ashirit looked up.
All three of them stared at her, surprised by the urgency in her tone.
"Sit with us."
Just that.
Not an explanation.
Not a request.

A plea hidden inside a simple sentence.

Reyansh froze for half a second.
He understood immediately.
Her shyness.
Her nerves.
Her heart running faster than her thoughts.
His lips curved, just a little.
Amused.
Soft.
Tender.
Ashirit glanced between the two of them, catching the tension in the air.

He sighed dramatically.
"Fine."
And got into the front passenger seat.
Shreya and Ekanshi exchanged a look.
Then slid into the back beside Ishani, squeezing in like they had planned it all along.

Ishani let out a breath she had not realised she was holding.
Her chest still felt tight.
Reyansh walked to the driver's side.
He did not rush.
Before getting in, he looked at her once.
Not teasing.
Not smirking.
Just quietly asking, Are you okay.
She met his eyes.
A tiny nod.
The door closed.
The engine started.
And as the car began to move, Ishani leaned back against the seat, heart still beating too fast, cheeks warm, knowing she had just escaped something beautiful...

At first, it was normal. City sounds drifted in through the open windows, light chatter filled the car, and the hum of the engine kept everything moving forward.

But then Reyansh adjusted the rear view mirror just a little. Not enough to be obvious. Just enough to see her. Ishani felt it before she fully realised it. That small, deliberate shift.

Her heart skipped, warmth spreading through her chest as she saw his eyes find her reflection. He kept his gaze on the road, steady and controlled, yet every few seconds his eyes lifted to the mirror, quietly returning to her.

It was not hunger. It was not impatience. It was something softer and somehow deeper. Like he needed to know she was still there.

Ishani's fingers curled in her lap. Being looked at like that made her feel strangely exposed and strangely safe at the same time. And she was not the only one who noticed.

Shreya leaned forward from the back seat, eyes narrowing slightly as she followed his gaze in the mirror. A slow grin spread across her face.
"Wow," she said lightly, but loud enough for everyone to hear. "Rear view mirrors have suddenly become very interesting, haven't they?"
Ashirit stiffened in the passenger seat. "Please," he muttered. "I am right here. Have some shame."
Ekanshi giggled, covering her mouth. "Let him look. It is not like he is doing anything illegal."
Reyansh did not deny it. He did not even look embarrassed. He only lifted one eyebrow slightly, still driving, still watching the road.

"Is it a crime to admire what is sitting in your own car?" he said calmly.
Ishani's face went pink immediately. She turned her head toward the window, trying to hide it, but it was too late.
Shreya laughed. "Bhabhi is blushing again. I told you."
Ashirit groaned. "I regret sitting in this car already."
But Reyansh only smiled faintly, eyes soft as they found Ishani in the mirror one more time.

Shreya twisted around in her seat, eyes bright with curiosity and far too much mischief.
"Okay, now seriously," she said, leaning closer to Ishani, "tell us, bhabhi. What did bhai do yesterday that you are still this red today?"

Ishani froze.

Her fingers tightened around her bag, and she felt heat rush straight to her cheeks. "Nothing," she said too quickly. "It was just... a long day."
Ekanshi raised an eyebrow. "A long day does not make you look like you have been caught stealing something sweet."
Ashirit cleared his throat loudly.
Shreya waved him off. "Relax, Ashirit. We are just observing."
Reyansh glanced at the mirror again, lips curving in a small, knowing smile.
"I was very well behaved," he said calmly. "She is just naturally flustered around me."
Ishani shot him a look, mortified. "Reyansh."
Shreya laughed. "See? Even his name makes her blush."
Ekanshi leaned closer. "Did he say something?"
"No."
"Did he do something?"
"No," Ishani insisted, though her voice was already giving her away.

Ekanshi leaned closer.
"That is what everyone says when something happened."
Ashirit immediately held up his hand.
"No."
"I know he is my friend."
"And yes, they are a couple."
"But I am also her elder brother."
"Please do not discuss their romantic moments in front of me."
Reyansh smirked in the mirror.
"Too late."

Reyansh chuckled softly. "She is lying."
"I am not."
"You are," he replied easily. "You just do not want to admit you liked it."
Her eyes widened. "I did not."
"You did," he said gently, still teasing. "You were smiling the whole time."

Shreya clapped her hands. "Oh, I love this. So romantic, so dramatic."
Ashirit covered his face with one hand. "I need new friends."
Ishani finally buried her face in her hands. "You all are horrible."
But even as she said it, there was a shy smile hiding behind her fingers.

Ishani peeked through her fingers, her cheeks still burning, and that only made everyone laugh more.
Shreya giggled. "She is officially gone."
Ekanshi nodded dramatically.

Ashirit shook his head, half amused, half exasperated. "You two are acting like you just discovered romance for the first time."
Reyansh glanced at Ishani through the mirror again, his eyes soft, almost fond. "Let them talk," he said lightly. "She looks cute when she is shy."
"Stop saying that," Ishani protested weakly, still hiding her face. "You are all embarrassing me."
"That is the point," Shreya teased. "Bhabhi, we have to make sure bhai is treating you properly."
Reyansh raised a brow. "And what makes you think I am not?"
"Because she cannot even look up right now," Ekanshi said with a grin.

Ashirit laughed softly. "I swear, you all are enjoying this way too much."
Reyansh slowed the car slightly at a turn, then said casually, "I am just glad she is smiling."
Ishani glanced up then, just for a second, and their eyes met in the mirror.

Her heart skipped.

She looked away immediately, cheeks red all over again.
Shreya whooped. "There. That. That look. That is what we are talking about."
Everyone laughed again.

Reyansh let the laughter die down just a little before speaking again, his tone suddenly too casual to be innocent.
"Since we are already talking about people getting shy," he said, eyes flicking toward the mirror again, "why don't we talk about Ashirit and Ekanshi too."
Ishani froze.
Her head snapped up. "What?"
Ekanshi's phone almost slipped from her hands. "What about us?"
Ashirit shifted in the front seat, suddenly very interested in the scenery outside the window. "Nothing. There is nothing."

Shreya squinted at all three of them. "Why are you all acting weird at the same time?"
Reyansh smiled slowly, enjoying this far too much. "Oh come on. I have seen things. Secret glances. Fingers brushing. Someone always making sure someone else has water or is okay. Now tell me... what exactly is going on between you two?"
Ekanshi's face went completely red.
"Bhaiii.." she whispered, panicking. "Stop."
"No," he said lightly. "You have been teasing Ishani since morning. I think it is only fair."
Ashirit cleared his throat. "You are overthinking."
"Am I?" Reyansh replied. "I have literally seen you holding her fingers when you thought no one was looking. And you did confessed already in front of me that day in office."

Ishani's eyes widened. "Bhaiya?"
Shreya stared between them. "Wait. Hold on. What fingers? What glances? Why do I not know this?"
Ekanshi looked like she wanted to disappear into the seat. "I... I..."
Reyansh turned slightly, glancing at her through the mirror. "Go on."
She took a breath, then blurted out, "I do not know what it is. I just... I like being with him."

The car went silent.

"What?" Shreya yelled. "You like him? As in like like him? And you did not tell me? I am your best friend."
Ekanshi covered her face. "I did not know how."
Shreya gasped dramatically. "This is betrayal."
Ishani leaned forward slightly. "Bhaiya?"

Ashirit let out a slow breath. He looked out the window once, then at Ekanshi, then finally forward again.
"I do not like her," he said quietly.
Everyone froze.
Ekanshi's heart jumped. "Then why are we even..."
"I love her," Ashirit continued, his voice steady now. "I have for a while. I just did not know how to say it without making it complicated."
The car went completely silent.
Ekanshi stared at him, eyes wide, breath caught somewhere in her chest.
"Love?" Shreya whispered. "As in... actual love?"
Ashirit nodded. "Yes."
Ekanshi swallowed. "You could have told me."
"I was scared," he admitted. "Of losing what we already had."
Ishani smiled softly, eyes shining. "You did not lose it."

Ekanshi looked at Ashirit, still trying to process it. "You really mean it."
"I do," he said simply.
Her lips curved into a shy, stunned smile.
Ashirit said"I was not planning to announce it in a moving car."
Reyansh laughed softly. "Too late for that."
Shreya stared at them, then suddenly squealed. "Oh my God. This is better than drama shows."
Ekanshi peeked through her fingers. "Stop making it worse."
Ishani smiled gently at her. "You two are cute."
Ashirit groaned. "Please do not encourage them."
Reyansh grinned, clearly pleased with his chaos. "All I did was ask a question."
Shreya pointed at him. "You are dangerous."
Reyansh shrugged. "Only when people tease my future wife."
That made Ishani blush all over again, and everyone noticed.
By the time the laughter settled, the car was already slowing down.
The first venue rose ahead of them.

------------

The cars slowed and stopped in front of the first venue, a sprawling heritage palace tucked between gardens and old stone walls.

One by one, everyone stepped out.
Sunidhi was the first, carefully helping Dadi down from the car. Abhay followed, steadying her arm. Dadi adjusted her dupatta, looking around with sharp, curious eyes that had seen more weddings than anyone else here.

Bhavesh and Kirti stepped out together, Kirti already scanning the place with the practical eye of a mother planning her daughter's big day. Ashirit came out next, still slightly dazed from what he had just confessed, while Ekanshi stood beside him, cheeks pink, pretending to be very interested in her phone. Shreya and Yuvan jumped out laughing about something only they understood. Avyansh followed, calmer but just as observant.

And then Reyansh stepped out of the driver's seat and walked around to Ishani's door.
He opened it for her.
She came out slowly, her anarkali brushing against the steps, hair catching the afternoon light. For a second, everything else faded for him. Not in a dramatic way. In a quiet, grounding one.
"You okay?" he asked softly.
She nodded, a little overwhelmed. "It is... a lot."
He smiled. "We will take it one place at a time."

The first venue was breathtaking.
High arches carved with old Rajasthani patterns, courtyards lined with bougainvillea, and a central open space that looked like it had been made for fairy lights and soft music. The marble floors were warm underfoot, and the air carried the faint scent of jasmine.

"This is beautiful," Kirti murmured.
Sunidhi walked slowly, imagining guests sitting here, lights strung across the arches. "It feels... royal."
Dadi tapped her walking stick once. "Royal is fine. But will it be comfortable?"

The coordinator smiled nervously and started explaining seating, shade, and arrangements.
Reyansh stood beside Ishani, watching her take it all in.
"What do you think?" he asked quietly.
She looked around, eyes thoughtful. "It is stunning," she said honestly. "But it feels... very grand. Like the place is louder than the people."
He understood immediately. "You want something that feels like us."
She glanced at him, surprised, then smiled softly. "Yes."
They moved on.
The second venue was more modern.

Glass walls, open lawns, perfectly manicured hedges, and a huge stage overlooking a lake.
Yuvan whistled. "This looks like a movie set."
"It is very Instagram coded," Shreya said, half amused, half impressed.
Kirti looked unsure. "It is nice, but it feels... cold."

Ishani agreed. The view was gorgeous, but something about it felt distant. Like it would photograph beautifully but not hold emotion.
Reyansh leaned in slightly. "Not this either?"
She shook her head. "It does not feel like a beginning. It feels like a show."
He smiled faintly. "Good. We are not here for a show."

By the time they reached the third venue, the sun had begun to dip, turning the sky soft and golden.

The third venue stood quietly at the end of a narrow stone road, almost hidden behind tall neem trees and climbing bougainvillea. It was not loud the way the first had been, or polished like the second. It was... still. An old haveli courtyard, worn by time but held together by grace.
As soon as Ishani stepped inside, she felt something shift.

The courtyard opened slowly, like it did not want to reveal itself all at once. Tall sandstone pillars held up carved balconies that wrapped around the open space. Soft fairy lights were already draped between them, glowing faintly even in the late afternoon. In one corner, there was a small temple, old and slightly chipped, with a single brass bell that moved gently in the breeze. A few marigolds lay at its base, placed there by someone earlier in the day.
The air smelled of earth and flowers and something old and comforting.

Kirti inhaled slowly. "This feels... sacred."
Sunidhi nodded, already imagining rituals happening here. "It is not flashy, but it feels meaningful."
Dadi stepped forward, tapping her walking stick softly against the stone. "Places like this have memories," she murmured. "They listen."
Reyansh watched Ishani carefully.
She was not smiling the way she had at the first venue. Or frowning the way she had at the second. She was quiet. Almost too quiet.
He leaned in slightly. "What do you feel?"
She took a few steps forward, touching one of the pillars lightly with her fingers. The stone was cool under her skin. She looked up at the balconies, the lights, the open sky above.

"It is beautiful," she said softly.
Everyone turned to her.
"But..." she hesitated.
Reyansh's heart stilled. "But?"
She turned toward him, eyes thoughtful. "It feels like a place that has already lived a lot."
Kirti frowned gently. "Is that bad?"
"No," Ishani replied. "It is just... heavy."

She gestured around. "It feels like it is holding stories that are not ours. Like we would be stepping into something already written."
Reyansh understood exactly what she meant. He had felt it too. The weight of old love, old promises, old grief perhaps.
"I want our wedding to feel like a beginning," she continued quietly. "Not like an echo."
Sunidhi looked at her with soft pride. "You want something lighter."
"Yes," Ishani said. "Something that feels open. Like it is waiting for us, not remembering someone else."

Dadi watched her for a long moment, then nodded slowly. "She is right."
Reyansh smiled faintly, admiration clear in his eyes.
"So this one is not it either?" he asked gently.
She shook her head. "No. It is lovely. Just not ours."
And as they walked back out of the courtyard, the haveli remained behind them

As the sky began to soften into evening, the tiredness of the long day finally settled over everyone. Too many places. Too many opinions. Too many emotions.

They were just about to head back to the haveli when Dadi suddenly tapped her stick on the floor.
Let's go somewhere and eat something.
Everyone starts searching for a good one then .
"Bas," Dadi announced. "Ab hotel ka khana nahi. Asli swaad toh ek achhe dhabbe pe aata hai."
Everyone turned toward her.
"A roadside dhaba?" Avyansh asked, amused.
"Bilkul," Dadi said firmly. "Shaadi ki baat kar rahe ho tum log, aur tumhara pet five star chahiye."
Sunidhi laughed. "Chalo phir. Aaj Mummy ji ka order."

So the convoy changed direction.

A few minutes later, they were sitting on long wooden benches at a lively roadside dhaba, warm yellow bulbs hanging overhead, the smell of ghee and spices filling the air. Plates of dal baati churma were placed in front of them, along with bowls of lassun ki chatni that made everyone's eyes water just by looking at it.

Bhavesh took one bite and smiled. "This is it. This is the real food."
Kirti nodded, already tearing into a baati. "Much better than anything fancy."
Shreya winced after tasting the chutney. "Why is it attacking my tongue?"
Yuvan laughed. "Because you are weak."

Even Reyansh looked relaxed, rolling up his sleeves as he ate, glancing at Ishani every now and then as she quietly enjoyed her food, cheeks warm from the spice and the day.

By the time they returned to the haveli, the sky was dark and everyone was comfortably tired. They gathered in the lobby for a few minutes, sinking into sofas, phones coming out, tired laughter floating in the air.

Abhay cleared his throat. "We will go again tomorrow. There are still a few more venues to see."
Bhavesh nodded. "Yes. We should not rush something like this."
Reyansh leaned back, arms crossed, calm but sure. "We will find the right one."

Everyone slowly began heading to their rooms, one by one, the lobby emptying until only Reyansh and Ishani were left standing near the staircase.

For a moment, neither of them spoke.
Then Reyansh stepped closer, his voice low and steady. "Do not worry. We will find a place that feels right."
Before she could respond, he leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her forehead. Not hurried. Not teasing. Just gentle.
Her cheeks turned warm instantly.
"I know," she whispered.
They stood there for another quiet second, the world suddenly very small and very gentle.

Then, reluctantly, they moved toward their separate rooms, carrying the same soft hope with them into the night.
