Ishani arrived at Reyansh's house sharp at 11 in the morning. She looked at the half-decorated hall. The decorators were waiting for her instructions, and she quickly got to work. She gave them directions, deciding where the lights, flowers and drapes should go.
As she was adjusting the floral decorations on a tall pillar, Reyansh walked in. He stood at a distance, watching her with amusement. She was busy, her sleeves rolled up, hair tied in a messy bun, completely focused on the work.
"Need help?" he asked, making her turn in surprise.
"No, I can manage," she replied softly, looking away.
His grandmother, who was nearby, smiled at their interaction. "Reyansh, help her. She's working so hard," she said kindly.
Reyansh smirked and stepped closer. "You heard Dadi?"
Ishani just nodded, feeling nervous under his gaze.
As the time passed, Ishani interacted with the whole family. Reyansh's mother praised her decoration skills, and his younger sister chatted with her about the theme. She felt comfortable with them, and they treated her warmly.
Later in the afternoon, Ishani climbed a ladder to adjust some lights. She was reaching for a garland when she lost her balance. A small gasp escaped her lips as she felt herself falling. Before she could hit the ground, strong arms caught her.
She blinked, heart racing, realizing she was in Reyansh's arms. Their faces were close, too close. Her cheeks turned red as she struggled to find words.
"You should be careful," he said, his voice softer than usual.
"I...I didn't mean to fall," she mumbled, looking away.
For the first time, he chuckled. "Well, Ishani, at least now you know I won't let you fall."
Her eyes widened. He had called her by her name, not formally like before. She hesitated but then whispered, "Thank you, Reyansh."
He stared at her for a moment before gently setting her down. Their family members, who had seen the scene, smiled knowingly.
"You two look good together," Dadi teased, making Ishani's cheeks turn even redder.
Reyansh, on the other hand, just smirked. "Maybe we do."
Ishani quickly busied herself with decorations, avoiding his gaze. But the warmth in her chest remained, and she knew things had changed between them.
The day went on with more decorations and small moments between them. Every time their hands brushed, Ishani felt shy, while Reyansh seemed to enjoy teasing her. The family noticed but didn't say much, letting things unfold naturally.
Their eyes met for a moment longer than necessary before his sister pulled Ishani away for some arrangements. As she walked away, Reyansh watched her, a small smile on his lips.
Ishani came back after talking to Shreya and focused on the decorations again. She tied her open hair into a messy bun, a few strands falling on her face. She was completely lost in her work, making sure everything looked perfect.
Reyansh, standing nearby, kept watching her closely. He didn't understand why, but seeing her work with so much dedication made him smile. The way she gave instructions, adjusted the flowers, and fixed the decorations , it was all so natural for her.
Just then, one of the workers accidentally bumped into her. Ishani lost her balance and gasped, feeling herself falling.
Before she could hit the ground, strong hands caught her again.
Reyansh had moved quickly, his arms around her waist to stop her from falling.
"Seriously, Ishani?" he said, looking at her. "Aaj ka pura din girne ka plan hai kya?"
Ishani's eyes widened as she realized how close they were. She quickly straightened, looking away, feeling her cheeks turn warm.
"Nahi... woh... bas dhyaan nahi tha," she mumbled, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
Reyansh smirked slightly. "Agar aapko girne ka itna hi shauk hai toh main yahin khada rahu aapko sambhalne ke liye?"
Ishani looked at him, eyes widening again. "Aisa kuch nahi hai!" she said quickly.
He chuckled. "Theek hai, theek hai. Par aap thoda dhyaan rakhiye. Warna mujhe lagne laga hai ki mera aaj ka din sirf aapko sambhalte hue guzar jayega."
Ishani quickly turned away, pretending to check the decorations. Her heart was beating faster, and she was sure Reyansh had noticed.
After some time, she was fixing the flower arrangements near the main entrance when a strong breeze made a few petals scatter. She sighed and bent down to collect them, unaware that Reyansh had walked up in front of her.
As she stood up, she bumped into his chest.
"Careful," his deep voice said, his hands steadying her by the shoulders.
Ishani looked up, startled. "Aap... yahaan?"
Reyansh raised an eyebrow. "Mujhe laga aaj aapko sambhalna meri zimmedaari ban chuka hai."
Ishani pursed her lips, stepping back. "Aisa kuch nahi hai."
He chuckled. "Mujhe toh lag raha hai."
Before she could reply, Dadi entered the hall, smiling at them.
Dadi smiled. "Bohot achha lag raha hai sab. Tumhare haath mein jaadu hai, beta."
Ishani blushed at the compliment. "Thank you, Dadi."
Dadi then looked at Reyansh. "Aur tum? Sirf dekh rahe ho ya madad bhi kar rahe ho?"
Reyansh smirked. "Madad kar raha hoon, Dadi. Aaj do baar bacha chuka hoon inhe girne se."
Dadi chuckled. "Accha? Toh iska matlab hai Ishani ke saath tumhara rehna zaroori hai. Warna yeh zameen par zyada time bita degi."
Reyansh laughed, and Ishani looked down, feeling shy.
Dadi patted her head and left...
"Waise ek baat bataiye aap hrr smay aise girti rehti hai?"Reyansh asked playfully.
"Nhi aisa nhi h "Ishani replied nervously but Reyansh was in the mood of teasing her, he again asked"to kaisa hai Ishani ?ya khi aap jnti hai ki aap girengi to mai hrr bar pakad lunga isliye to nhi kr rhi h na aap yeh.."
"N-Nhi Nhi aap galat smjh rhe h Reyansh m-mai jaankr nahi gir rahi"She mumbled feeling flustered .
Reyansh chuckled at her innocence and said"Hum jante hai ki aap jaankr nhi kr rhi hum bas majak kar rhe the aapse"
Ishani widened her eyes "A-Aap Aap bhot bure hai Mr.Agarwal "
Reyansh kept his hand above his heart faking hurt and said "Frr se Mr.Agarwal ? Hum to bas majak kr rhe the aapse, hume accha lag rah hai apse hasi majak krna Ishani " and left from there deciding not to tease her further .
Ishani glanced at him, feeling something strange inside her heart , something she couldn't name yet.
As the decorations continued, Ishani focused on her work, but every now and then, she felt Reyansh's gaze on her. And for the first time, she didn't mind it as much.
After sometime Ishani thought of taking Reyansh's help for decorating Mandir because her every worker was busy in decorating the hall .so she approached him and saw he was talking on call , she patiently waited for 5 minutes for the call to over, his back was facing her.
After the call finished she called "R-Reyansh"her voice soft.
Reyansh turns towards her "Han Ishani boliye "
"Kya aap meri Mandir ko decorate krne mai help karenge"she asked
"Ji bilkul"he replied happily ,they both moved towards mandir.
Ishani and Reyansh were busy decorating the mandir together. The soft glow of fairy lights mixed with the fragrance of fresh flowers filled the air, creating a peaceful yet enchanting atmosphere. Ishani was carefully adjusting the flower garlands while Reyansh fixed the lights, both lost in their work.
As time passed, a few loose strands of Ishani's hair kept falling over her face, disturbing her again and again. She huffed in frustration and was about to fix them but before her Reyansh, who had been watching her struggle silently, reached out and gently tucked her hair behind her ear. His fingers brushed against her skin, sending an unexpected shiver down her spine.
Ishani froze.
Her breath caught as she slowly lifted her eyes to meet his. He was close-closer than before. His eyes held an intensity she had never seen before. There was no teasing smirk, no usual sarcasm - just silence, deep and unspoken.
Reyansh's fingertips lingered for a second longer than necessary before he pulled his hand back.
"m... main khud kar leti," Ishani whispered, her voice barely above a breath.
"I know," Reyansh murmured, his gaze unwavering.
But he had still done it.
The world around them blurred, the noise of workers and decoration fading into the background. The only thing Ishani could hear was the loud beating of her heart. She quickly looked away, stepping back to create some distance, trying to calm herself.
After that small moment, Ishani couldn't focus properly. Her heart was still beating fast, and she didn't know why. She tried to keep herself busy with the decorations, but every time she moved, she felt Reyansh's presence near her.
She didn't look at him directly, but she could feel his eyes on her. Every time he came close to hand her something or fix a decoration near her, her breath would hitch. She tried to act normal, but her hands trembled slightly when she tied a garland.
Reyansh, on the other hand, was calm - at least from the outside. He continued working as if nothing had happened, but there was a small, amused smile on his lips every time Ishani avoided his gaze.
At one point, Ishani was trying to adjust the flowers on the temple pillars. She stretched her hands to fix them, but the garland slipped from her fingers. Before she could bend to pick it up, Reyansh was already there, handing it to her. Their fingers brushed and Ishani quickly pulled her hand back, mumbling a soft, "Thanks."
Reyansh smirked slightly. "You seem distracted today," he said, his voice low and teasing.
"I-I'm not" Ishani replied quickly, keeping her eyes fixed on the decorations.
"Hmm." He didn't say anything more, but his tone told her he didn't believe her.
As they continued decorating, Ishani tried to keep a safe distance, but somehow, Reyansh would always end up near her. Whether it was fixing the lights or arranging the diyas, he was always there , close enough for her to feel his presence.
She felt her cheeks heat up every time their hands accidentally touched or whenever he leaned in to adjust something. She scolded herself internally for being so affected, but nothing seemed to help.
By the time they finished decorating the mandir, Ishani let out a sigh of relief. Not because she was tired, but because she could finally get some space to breathe.
Or at least she thought so.
As she turned to leave, Reyansh casually said, "Nice work, Ishani."
She simply nodded before quickly walking away.
Reyansh watched her retreating figure with a small smile. Something had definitely changed between them and he was eager to know where it goes.
